'Margaret was excellent to work with on our pioneering Environmental Land Management Test, supported by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).  Working with farmer and land managers  in the Forest of Bowland National Landscape, the test explored how they might be rewarded for providing multiple benefits (or 'ecosystem services') for society such as improved biodiversity, carbon storage and flood mitigation.

 

Her outstanding ecological knowledge, allied with her understanding of farming and land management made for winning combination with this contract.  She developed good relationships with the farmers involved, helping to keep them engaged and involved in the research.  This was particularly challenging as most of the work was carried out during the COVID pandemic.  Margaret's flexibility and adaptability meant that, despite these challenges, the research provided valuable insight for the Forest of Bowland National Landscape Partnership and DEFRA.'
